We are always interested in thought-provoking letters and opinion pieces from our readers. Share with us your experiences as a Pagan, your thoughts on being Pagan, and how Paganism affects your worldview. Please be aware your work may be edited for length.

All work submitted to The Pagan Heart remains the property of the original author, for additional submission and sale elsewhere without any claim being held by The Pagan Heart. Guidelines for Letters to the Editor and Opinion Pieces

Comments from the Pagan Community: Letters to the Editor - informal, brief glimpses into your life and thoughts. Please direct feedback on articles within the magazine to the relevant division - email addresses are provided on all pages. Letters should be a maximum of 200 words in length, with the full submission within the email, and the name you wish used as a by-line.

Pagan Life - experiences, epiphanies and other life-altering moments as a Pagan explored in detail. A place to offer an alternate view or concept for our readers to consider. Submissions should be less than 1,000 words in length, with the full submission within the email, and the name you wish used as a by-line.

Whispers in the Dark - this is an ongoing feature article consisting of personal essays about finding our paths. A focus upon the challenges, the difficulties, the joys, and the suprises is encouraged. Also what you learnt from the experience. Memories Over the Years - the memories we have of the festivals we celebrate with friends and families. Within these snapshots is a more rounded look at the festivals we share. They are not about the right ingredients or words, but about family and friends and the memories we create as we celebrate our spirituality. My ReligionMy Religion - This is a space for people to provide their individual perspective on their religious beliefs/system - including what they like and don't like about the formal versions of their path. Guidelines for Submissions to Kitchen Witchery

In the Kitchen - each issue features recipes relevant to the season or the various festivals of the time. Recipe submissions should contain a two or three line introduction explaining the significance, the ingredients, instructions, and where possible a photo of the finished dish - maximum file size of 800kb.

The Magical Foods We Eat - this is a series of articles taking a closer look at some of the foods we eat - their healthful benefits as well as their magical role. Any contributions of essays on food need to have research to back up any medical claims. Submissions of recipes, rituals, and spells involving featured foods, or submitted alongside an essay on a magical food, need to be responsible in content. Submissions of articles, recipes, and spells should be less than 2,000 words in length, where possible include a relevant photo - maximum file size of 800kb, with the full submission within the email, and the name you wish used as a by-line.

The Kitchen Witch - there is a regular column that discusses Kitchen Witchery - the hows, whys, and wherefores. Additional essays, personal experiences, tricks and tips of the trade, spells and rituals are all sought after. Guidelines for Submissions to Callum's Herbaria

Callum Mostyn

Callum's Herbaria - Callum's Herbaria discusses a variety of herbs/spices/magical foods each issue. Fairly generic in content, the aim is to create a familiarity with the entire nature of the herb, rather than simply provide a magical spell or two. Callum's work is archived in a more comprehensive format, with correspondences for the herbs included. Additional material dealing with herbal correspondences, herbal recipes (sacred, mundane, and magical), and gardening are always welcome. Please be responsible with any recipes or spells you submit. Submissions should be less than 2,000 words in length, with the full submission within the email, and the name you wish used as a by-line.

Focus Upon Herbs - this is a secondary column that goes in depth into the herbs already featured (from a magical and healing perspective) - additional writers are wanted. Quotes and interesting tidbits of folklore or recipes are also sought after. Submissions should be less than 2,000 words in length, with the full submission within the email, and the name you wish used as a by-line.

Aromatherapy - Maureen Kincaid offers advice on using oils for reasons both magical and healing. Reader contributions of blends and recipes, personal experience and correspondences are always welcome. Please be responsible with any oil blends you submit. Lunatic Planting - Bill Wolfe discusses various aspects of gardening and magical work using the moon and stars as guides. Articles and essays exploring this concept are sought after. Submissions should be less than 2,000 words words in length and include the name you wish used as a by-line.

Down the Garden Path - question and answer section concerning herbs - their care, use, purpose or presentation. Please send your queries to :Callum or Jill. You can also request specific herbs be covered in their articles.

   

Guidelines for Submissions to Festivals and Holidays

Seasonal Festivals - Each issue we feature a number of major festivals from various Pagan faiths - both Nothern and Southern Hemispheres. Submissions for this column need to be well researched documents focusing upon either the historical celebration, or a blend of historical with modern interpretations. The gods venerated, the rituals, the culture - all these things should be discussed. Original prayers, rituals, quotes, and artwork should be included. References to websites and/or books as sources of the material presented and for further study must be included. Submissions should be 2-4,000 words in length, where possible include a relevant photo - maximum file size of 800kb, with the full submission within the email, and the name you wish used as a by-line.

Holy Day - an offshoot of Seasonal Festivals, this section deals with the festivals and holidays sacred to the writer, especially non-Generic holidays. Wiccan, Neo-Paganism and Eclectic faith systems all share at least some of the eight "traditional Pagan festivals". As such they are relatively well-known to our readership. We are interested in the sharing of other celebrations as well. Articles for this topic will be posted within the Pagan Thought Division, under Diversified Paths. Submissions should be 1-3,000 words in length, where possible include a relevant photo - maximum file size of 800kb, with the full submission within the email, and the name you wish used as a by-line.

   

Guidelines for Submissions to Pagan Families

The Heart of the Matter - submissions from readers about the spiritual change being a parent brings. And about the wonders of parenting Pagan children - seeing the world through their eyes within communities not geared to support that viewpoint. Spoil Me...Please - home-made recipes to pamper and care for the skin, hair, body, and soul. All recipes must consist of five or less ingredients and take a maximum of ten minutes to create. Mythology for Children - written for children and young teens, this is a section devoted to exploring the historical people from whom we draw our Pagan religions. Legends, crafts, and rituals feature in this section, and contributions based upon individual and family faiths are welcome. Story submissions should be 1-2,000 words in length, other articles less than 1,000 word. Please include a two or three line introduction explaining the religion and the purpose of the submission. With crafts, photos of the steps involved are a plus - maximum total file size of 1,000kb. Include the name you wish used as a by-line.

Let's Color - these are colouring pages for children and teens. All work must be legally allowed to be used, credited to the artist, and with detailed references enabling easy location of the original by a third-party. Personal creations preferred. With web pages, please submit the URL and title of the image. All others must be a maximum total file size of 800kb. All images naturally need to be black and white. Include the name you wish used as a by-line.

Quick Cookery - quick and nutritious meals for busy families. Recipe submissions should be for very simple and quick dishes. They should list the ingredients, instructions, and where possible a photo of the finished dish - maximum file size of 800kb. Guidelines for Submissions of Art

The Pagan Heart is always interested in the artwork of its readers - whether written or visual.

Inspiration Speaks - we are interested in fictional work for children and adults. If you are interested in submitting poetry or a short story, please send an email to Inspiration Speaks care of Catherine, including the topic of your work, your name, any relevant details and your submission in full within the email. We currently have a 15-line limit per poem, and a 2,000 word limit on short stories, but this is negotiable.

Divine Images - submissions of reader and staff artwork with a Pagan theme or tone, especially ones complimenting upcoming seasons, festivals, or themes. Images should be a maximum of 800 kb in size. Please include in your email the following details:
1: Your intent to submit the work to the magazine for showing in an upcoming issue;
2: The title and meaning behind the work (if there is one);
3: Any relevance it may have to an upcoming issue - season, festival, theme, etc (if there is one); and
4: the name you wish used as a by-line.
